Before you start a new application

The following questionnaire will help you assess your own eligibility for the role of Special Constable. Spend a few minutes completing it to make sure that you can meet the initial eligibility requirements.

This questionnaire does not form part of your application. No one will be able to see your results but you.

Eligibility criteria Yes/No More information

Are you between 18 and 57 years of age?

Ideally, you should not have a criminal record but some minor offences may not exclude you.

If you answered 'yes' check whether your criminal record is significant here

Tattoos
Do you have any tattoos on any part of your body?

In itself, having a tattoo doesn't mean you are ineligible for consideration. However, some specific tattoos are not suitable for or compatible with the role of Special Constable.

Find out more about the kind of tattoos that aren't acceptable here

If yes, could your tattoo(s) cause offence to members of the public or colleagues?

Financial status
Are you or have you ever been registered as bankrupt?

Your financial status is important because Special Constables have access to privileged information, which may make them vulnerable to corruption. It is therefore important that you are not under any undue pressure from undischarged debts or liabilities.

Do you have, or have you ever had any County Court Judgements against you?

Are any of your financial arrangements (including mortgage) in arrears, or have you had any loans/credit arrangements withdrawn?

Please note that we only accept applications from individuals who possess 'exemplary' and 'very good' character assessments from the Army and RAF, or 'very good' and 'good' from the Royal Navy.
